benefits.
For some, yoga is an escape from the daily grind. If we don't allow the time to focus on ourselves this has a knock on effect on our relationships, work, everything.
With regular practice the mind and the body learn to work together and develop on both an emotional and physical level. Over time the body can feel stronger and more supple. A greater sense of calmness and contentment could emanate from within and the benefits of breathing become apparent.
There is a type of breathing known as Ujjayi, or victorious breath, which is a specialised breathing technique. It assists in quietening the mind and lengthening the breath. This slows the heart rate and calms the nervous system. Keeping the nervous system in a state of harmony allows the mind to focus on the present and helps the body to be free from tension. If the nervous system is agitated so are we.
