7 Reasons to go on a Yoga Retreat

  1. Do something for YOU.

How often do you take time out just for yourself? Whether it’s at work, or as a parent or carer, most of our time is spent ‘doing’ for other people. Make time for you a priority, stop doing and start being. When you’re on a retreat that’s exactly what happens. There’s nothing you need to do except live in the present. You get told what time to be at each class, food is prepared for you, any optional extras are all booked and the biggest decision might be, shall I read or go for a walk?

  2. Recharge the batteries.

We hustle through life at breakneck speed. The days can often feel like they blend into one and before we know it we’re back to January the 1st and every year we say, ‘I can’t believe how quickly this year went.’ Make a plan to STOP! Being on a retreat is the perfect opportunity to do just that. Slow down, recharge, regroup and enjoy the extra headspace.

  3. Spend more time doing what you love.

Immersing yourself in your favourite past time for a few days (or even one) can feel like a much needed holiday. Especially if you’re feeling stressed and overwhelmed with life it’s a wonderful way to nurture the mind and body reminding them that you haven’t forgotten them and you’re willing to put them first.

  4. Nourish the senses.

A retreat is an amazing way to nourish all your senses from touch (massage), to taste (delicious food), to sight (beautiful surroundings/walks), to hearing (sound bath, laughter), to smells (lavender was prevalent on this year’s retreat!); basically it’s an all round feast for the mind and body.

  5. Meet new people.

You’re all on a retreat for some escapism, the reasons may differ but ultimately you need time out. Spending time in a stress free environment can nurture new friendships and connectivity with like-minded people.

  6. Learn new things.

It's a great way to learn different aspects of yoga. On a retreat you have the time to dive deeper whether that includes a focus on meditation, pranayama, philosophy; the list is endless, there is always something new to learn.

  7. Clear blockages

Groundhog Day. Feeling stuck. Trying to stay serene on top but paddling like mad below the surface. There’s no time to think, to focus, to have the headspace to see where changes can/need to be made to move forwards. Being away from it all gives you the opportunity to feel less burdened and with less mental chatter. Giving the mind space to consider new ideas, you may just find you return home with a completely fresh new outlook and a sense of clarity.
